Clara's Story -
Mozambique
In
August 2006, while visiting a rural school in Mugondzi
district in Mozambique, JAM and it's German team, noticed a
young girl named Clara sitting all alone. Her health was in
very poor condition, her belly was swollen and her foot
infested with worms.
The
headmaster of the school informed us that Clara, as well as
her twin brother, had recently started attending their
school. They had lost both their parents, and were currently
living with an alcoholic great-uncle. Both Clara and her
twin brother, suffered much abuse and ill-treatment under
his care.
JAM immediately arranged for Clara to receive medical
attention in a local hospital. The doctor advised that her
foot was not only infested by worms, but also her digestive
tract, causing her belly to swell.
Since
her great-uncle's lack of interest in caring for them and
giving Clara any medical treatment, they were both sent to
JAM's clinic in Pambarra. The improved hygienic conditions,
and the medicine Clara received, allowed her to recover
well. Not only has her state of health improved, but also
her general well-being.
Due to JAM's immediate assistance - this once destitute,
lonely and ill child has now blossomed into a healthy and
happy young girl. This example reflects JAM's heart in
helping Africa help itself; not only through its school
feeding programs, but also through its individual care of
children like Clara |
